TGIF!!!

fine motor practice

bowie requested this activity the other day and we hadn't done it in a while, but it is mess free and so easy to set up, that i had to oblige.

it is a paper towel holder with some elastic hair bands.  she will separate the colors, make patterns and of course it is great fine motor practice!

straws and pipe cleaner

some days i am on my A game and have an activity set up before the kids even wake up, and today is one of those days!

i prepped this one (took less than a minute) for bowie during ryder's nap time.  it is straws, pipe cleaner and scissors (also some pre-cut paper straws from some jewelry making).  she has been really into practicing her cutting lately, so this activity will be to cut the straws and lace them on the pipe cleaners.  kids love to cut straws because they bounce all over, so we will be doing this on the carpet because they won't travel as far instead of the wood floor.  the pipe cleaners work well because the straws will not slip and slide, but stay put, which makes it less frustrating for littles.

she will be able to practice using scissors, fine motor work and maybe even some patterns with the lacing?  lets see what she comes up with?!?!

february preschool art

bowie was so happy to go back to school yesterday and see her friends!  she brought home some art work from earlier in the month from their valentine's day celebration.

my lil garden gnome

i SO needed this kinda day!  it was beautiful, warm (kinda - low 50's) the sun was shinning bright and the screen door is open!  i wore ryder out with a long walk and when he napped bowie and i picked daffodils, did some weeding and played in the backyard with chalk.  the time change is in a week and i can feel spring coming!

pet shop

had to cancel ryder's gym class because he is sick and that also means no toddler time.  so we had some time to kill while bowie is at school.  mama had an itch to go to target and then we hit up petco next door.  it's a great free activity to do with kids and they love it!

snugs!

like i said, being sick sucks...BUT it isn't all bad when you get these quality snugs in.

potions!

if only these potions had some medicinal properties, we could really use it!  it was only a matter of time, but ryder woke up this morning with a bad cold.  so another slow day at home it is.

i like to think this activity never gets old.  and when we are sick, i prefer to stay away from sensory play, because we save and reuse our materials.  i put pretty spring/easter egg watercolors in the egg carton with baking soda and white vinegar.  and she happily played for about an hour!

ryder's turn

poor guy woke up covered in snot and boogers.  he is grumpy, whinny and not feeling well.

BUT...that doesn't stop him from playing with his beloved peg dolls and trains!  one of his new favorite set ups is making configurations with the grimms rainbow for his cars or trains to travel on.

being sick sucks...

BUT it hasn't been all bad!!!

in a weird way, all the extra snuggles, sweetness and slowing down really allowed us to reconnect.

but don't get me wrong, i am excited for everyone to be healthy!

bed head!

i wish my hair looked half as good when i wake up!  a little peanut butter and hummus may have helped achieve this look.

bog and nature preserve

needed to get these sickies outside and wanted to change it up from the arboretum, so we went to the shadow lake bog and nature preserve.
