today is the actual holiday and i am feeling halloweened out! but we have done a lot over the last few weeks to celebrate. the kids have been to two pumpkin patches, gone through 2 different halloween play dough kits, done about half a dozen spooky art projects, decorated pumpkins, made halloween cookies, seeked out every spooky decorated house in the area, gone through drive through haunted pirate ships and truck or treat events, the whole family dressed up and we had pumpkin shaped pizza. today we will go through another drive through trick or treat event and we still have our own candy to pass out to the kids. not sure if we will have them trick or treat at all the doors in the house or do it easter egg style for them to find?

wax resist spider web painting
using a white crayon, i drew a spider web on a piece of art paper, which is harder to do than you think (i had a hard time seeing it, LOL). then i gave bowie some tempera paint cakes and let her discover what was underneath.
handprint spiders
bowie and i did these last week, but i forgot to post. using paint make overlapping hand-prints (minus the thumb) add googly eyes for spooky spiders.
kitchen basics
bowie loves to help in the kitchen, and i make it a weekly activity to cook or bake with both kids once a week. but this morning i had some extra time before ryder got up, to teach bowie how to make scrambled eggs. i think there are a lot of good learning opportunities in the kitchen like, cause and effect, measuring and of course life skills! she did so well and had fun with it!

hallowen sugar cookies
getting the last of our halloween activities in for the week! yesterday we made 2 batches of sugar cookie dough and it's been cooling in the fridge. and today we decorate and bake!
here is the recipe i used for the dough:
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
3/4 cup butter (room temp)
1 egg (room temp)
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 t vanilla extract
1 t almond extract
in a bowl mix butter, egg, sugar, vanilla and almond with a mixer. gradually add in dry ingredients until incorporated.
we let the dough chill overnight and today we rolled it out, used some festive cookie cutters and decorated with sprinkles.

went to a new pumpkin patch called "mosby's" in auburn today with friends. the kids had fun picking out 4 pumpkins, playing with the wheel barrels, playing hide and seek and running in the field.
