day six

 covid diaries day six:

bowie - returned to school!  yay!!!

ryder - asymptomatic and cleared to return to school tomorrow.

jarad - cold like symptoms. (day 1)

erin - no longer feeling sickly, but lethargic and brain fog.  losing my taste.  i noticed this a few days ago, where i couldn't taste my coffee (and wasn't sure if jarad made it strong enough), but my taste is lessened and some things i can not taste at all.  vivid dreams every night since i got covid.

day five

kids are good, i am feeling better, mostly tired.  but jarad for the last two day has been feeling like he has "allergies." he had a mild sore throat for a night and post nasal drip, congestion.  he has been eagerly waiting his PCR test results from friday morning, which came back negative.  so he took a rapid test this morning and it came back positive...a covid conundrum???

i think it is safe to say he has it as well, i am not sure how he would not get it, but it is also very mild.  but his rapid test from thursday was negative, PCR test from friday negative and now his rapid test from sunday is positive.  so this is his day zero, and will need to quarantine for 5 days.

day four

i didn't think it was possible for the kids to get tired of TV, but we hit that point about two days ago.  luckily grandma and grandpa sent a covid care package and the kids have some new stuffies to cuddle with and a new activity.

jarad is feeling a bit under the weather, he is anxiously rechecking his email to see if the PCR results have come in, but they haven't.

i am feeling better.  still a bit achy and overall tired.  but mostly sick and tired of being sick and tired.

i am on the mend and on the other side, just need to get my energy back.  i am not looking forward to all the laundry that is in my future.  i will be disinfecting everything and washing everything!  it will be an early spring cleaning event!  we have had some nice weather, so as soon as we heard we were sick we have been airing out the house during the day, and opening up windows and doors during nap time for a good air exchange.

sickies in the hot tub

the kids are fine and i am on the mend.  covid stew in here, but the jets feel good on my achy body.

day three

bowie slept through the night, but i sweated through two shirts as i still battle a fever.  i also was up coughing a lot last night and having vivid dreams.  but my throat is no longer sore and my aches are improving.  i can tell i am on the mend, although i still don't feel great.

jarad and i took PCR tests today, as i scheduled them when i first found out we were sick. i retested the kids at home today and this is what they look like.

from what i have read these home tests work in the same way as a home pregnancy test and are picking up the amount of viral load in your body.  therefor a darker test is reading more virus.  so it appears that bowie is getting better while ryder (who is asymptomatic) is still carrying a lot of viral load.  bowie's is looking a little lighter?  either way, we are staying to ourselves.

day two

bowie slept through the night and seems like her normal self.  no fevers for the kids and ryder is still asymptomatic.  the kids are watching lots of TV, tablet time and playing.  i am on the sofa feeling like crap.  my throat is much better today, but still achy and lots of chills.  i have had a fever off and on all day.  the highest being 101.6

i am also starting to develop a dry cough.  i retested both jarad and myself.  and you can see my test line is much darker today. jarad still remains negative.

i've been giving a lot of thought to our initial tests.  i think these rapid tests provide a lot more information than i would have thought. ryder's test came in super dark and immediate and bowie's came in a little lighter and mine faint.  i think that has to do with the amount of viral load that the test is picking up.  also, when ryder went to school on tuesday, half of his class is missing.  my belief is that ryder got it from school and was the carrier in our house, although he has been asymptomatic.  if bowie had not felt poorly on tuesday afternoon, i would not have known to test ryder.  and i would have not tested myself until wednesday when i really started to feel badly.

day one

day one, bowie was up several times last night as well as myself with a sore throat and body aches.  in the morning jarad took our temps and we all three of us had low grade fevers.  it is hard to say if ryder had one as he normally runs much warmer than bowie and i.  bowie is taking motrin and says her throat is feeling better. the kids took a nap today.  no more fevers for the kids, and ryder remains asymptomatic.

as for myself, i feel like i have a bad case of the flu.  sore throat, body aches and chills. i have been on the sofa and also took a long afternoon nap.

jarad is doing a good job of taking care of us but not hanging around us.  he made breakfast for dinner and is still feeling well.

day zero

welcome to the covid diaries. it started off like any normal week day.  in fact, there was a bit of excitement this morning as i sat by my computer to enroll ryder for preK for next year in an online registration.  and jarad took the kids to school and i picked them up.  bowie came home from school and ate a snack and watched a show, i was making dinner.  then she said that her throat was kinda sore and her head hurt.  so, i tested her with an at home covid test, which came back positive.  ugh!!!  so i tested the rest of us and ryder was also positive and i had a faint line starting to form.  which seemed right on pare, as i was just starting to feel my throat beginning to get scratchy.  jarad was the only one of us who was negative.

so i emailed and texted teachers, school nurse and a friend who we were in contact with over the weekend.  the school nurse called me back shortly and said that this is our day zero (meaning first day of symptoms and testing positive) and if she is better, the earliest bowie can return to school would be on monday.

jarad started wearing a mask and aired out the section of the house where the office is and we are not allowed to go over there.  he will be sleeping in the guest room.

day zero: (tests taken around 5:30ish on tuesday evening)

bowie - complaining of mild sore throat and head hurt

ryder - asymptomatic

erin - start of scratchy throat around 4pm

jarad - negative

fort nisqually

today we headed into tacoma to check out fort nisqually at point defiance.  we learned about how people lived back in the 1850's and the history of the fur trade in this area.  they were cutting logs, making tin queen cake pans and smoking bacon at the fort today.  they also had two cats and some really cool chickens and a rooster.

self care saturday

"self care" is probably on a lot of moms new year resolution goals, but i am not sure this is what we have in mind?!?!?

the kids "pampered" me with a pedicure and temp tattoos and bowie did ryder's toes as well.  he doesn't like to be left out.  and i used some nail wraps on bowie.

ryder's preschool art

ryder was very proud of his rainbow cloud this week.  in fact he was playing with some toys the other day and put them in rainbow order all by himself.  and he also loves his letter "D" and so does wilfred!

cross stitching

bowie has been telling me she misses doing one on one crafts with me.  so i made some special time with her to do some activities. this is a kids cross stitch kit in a cupcake design.  i remember learning how to needlepoint when i was in the 2nd grade at our neighbor's house, so i was hoping she would enjoy it as much as i did.

in the wild

i haven't been thrifting in a LONG time, like since november.  so i was bound to have some luck in the wild.  i found a "pedro" (my 4th one) and a white fiesta cream and sugar set, both for $10...a lucky day indeed!

stairs and slides

it's a beautiful day, so we decided to head into tacoma for the "stairs and slides."  to our surprise, the weather was much different over there, very foggy and a bit chilly.  good thing we warmed up running up the stairs and the kids love the slides!  and a stop at SIG for the best pizza and our favorite beer!  makes for a great afternoon!
