besides our strawberries, this is our harvest. one small pathetic bell pepper. i planted cucumber, zucchini and bell peppers back in spring, and i just picked this guy the other day. this is ALL we got! LAME, oh well...this guy will go in the chili i am making for dinner tonight.

nature nut
ryder and i went for a damp walk through the arboretum this morning. i was thinking to myself, "i wonder if they get tired of this place?" sometimes, they are and it wouldn't be their first choice, but lately they have been wanting to spend LOTS of time there and we even went 5 times last week. i think it's pretty neat that we have this kind of open space so accessible and they know the trails, have favorite trees and can explore.

art drawer
the kids have been very into creating lately. i have been wanting to refresh our art station and decided to turn one of our kitchen drawers into a space for our art supplies. i got lots of small baskets to organize and the kids have access to glitter glue (i may regret this), markers, crayons, kwik stix, scissors, tape, washi tape, gel pens, colored pencils, glue and string at their fingertips.
curls
his sweet curls disappeared after his first hair cut, but now that his hair is a little longer i see a few popping out. i love the way his hair curls behind his ear.
griddle
when the griddle comes out, i mean business. protein pancake production mode this morning. this is the 3rd time since school has started that i have made a quadruple batch of these. they are loaded with extra eggs and cottage cheese for protein and i freeze them for an easy breakfast.

ghost garland
i set up this after school activity for the kids to decorate felt ghosts (buttons, googly eyes, sharpies and glitter glue). once dry i will string them for a spooky halloween garland.
spooky play dough
threw together a spooky play dough tray for the kids to share for an afternoon activity together. they made some fun halloween creations.

450 north
jarad and i love fun, fruity, unique beers. we usually pick up something new to taste most weekends. imbibe was carrying this one that we had never had before and it was AMAZING! we will be back to to stock up. it tasted like sparkling sweet tarts, but a beer. OMG, drool worthy!
pear crisp
our friends gave us a huge bag of pears from a farm, and we have been eating them, gave a bag to the neighbor, but today i made a pear crisp with the rest of them. it turned out SOOOO good!
i peeled, cored and chopped my pears (about a dozen of them). added a couple of tablespoons of sugar, 1/4 cup of flour and plenty of pumpkin pie spice.
the topping recipe i used included:
1.5 cup oats
1.5 cup flour
1 t salt
3/4 brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 sticks cold butter diced into small cubes
combine well until crumbly. bake at 350 degrees for an hour.
**the topping made so much that i ended up freezing about half of it for another crumble/crisp dessert**

good day at school
week 3 of school almost complete and i love opening the kids folders after class to see what they have been working on.
ryder worked on spelling his name and i think this is a preview of his school pic?
and bowie shopped the book fair, made this awesome drawing and got a blue award at school for being a great listener and participating.
