we are a house divided when it comes to pumpkin pie. jarad likes a particular brand of frozen pie and the rest of us like the impossible pumpkin pie recipe that i grew up with. for years i have been testing out new recipes in hopes of finding one we can all agree on. this year i found it!!! it is from one of my favorite food bloggers and it is amazing! i have made it three times in the last few months and it is a big hit! you can find the recipe HERE
we had a BLAST ice skating with friends this afternoon! the kids did so well and picked it up quickly, we were so impressed with how good they did and how much fun we all had! looking forward to an afternoon nap before we head to the neighbors house for a thanksgiving round two.

since we moved, thanksgiving has never felt the same. but this year i think we may have started a new tradition and i am loving it so far!
the kids have been excited to run with jarad at workout wednesday, so he asked them if they would be interested in doing the turkey trot as a family. so, we all signed up and had fun doing our first family 5k turkey trot. we ran into lots of people from school and did the race with some buddies. jarad got a great time and we all had a lot of fun!
now we are home and finishing up our cooking for the day. a very nontraditional spread, we are doing pulled pork and hawaiian mac salad.
bowie has done this project every year at school, and this is my favorite turkey disguise yet. can you figure it out? hint...the answer is at the bottom of the picture.

we have this odd nook in the house by the playroom stairs. over the years it has been used for a doll house, kids sized furniture, had a tall decorative cabinet and most recently a bookshelf for the kids books. i am in a big purge/cleaning mode and wanted to move the books into the playroom, which would allow me to decorate that nook the way i pleased. i found some art that spoke to ME and planned the space around it. it is not a functional space, so i made it just look pretty!

such a cute kinder nursery rhyme theater performance for ryder's class. just like his sister, he chose to do "jack sprat."
some days i just really want to use my "classics" paint pallet and use all the bright happy colors!
we did one on one date night with the kids, and bowie and i went to dinner and bingo together! it was so nice to have this quality time with my girl. jarad and ryder also went to dinner, played legos and video games and started a movie. next time we will switch it up!
the kids have off school today in observance of veterans day. so we visited the animal sanctuary and got to meet their new pig! it was extra special because the barn manager knows us since we are "regulars," and took the 4 of us into hamilton's barn and let us meet him. he is new and adjusting, so he is not having visitors right now, but we were lucky enough to meet him and love on him for a bit.
