fun find

out thrifting today and found something i am not too familiar with but know is very popular in the washington area.  a "glassybaby," which is a handblown glass votive candle holder.  to be honest, i don't really get the appeal?  they are beautiful, but they are expensive and i don't burn candles.  but it was a good deal for $16, so i picked it up.  it is a pretty periwinkle blue color and the tag says "legacy."  i can't find much info online about this one, but there is an exact same one on ebay going for $200!!!  i asked the seller if she had any information on it and they said it may have been a special edition for nurses.  not sure what i will do with it, keep or resell, but a fun find in the wild.

field trip!

ryder had a special field trip day at the tacoma kids museum.  it was a fun morning exploring art, building, water tables and climbing with his classmates.

2023 vision board

the kids and i along with their teacher (ms. jessica) made vision boards for 2023.  i wish i got a pic of the kids with jessica, they were so excited to have her over and show her all their toys and get to do a special craft with her all to themselves!

we cut out pics from all kinds of magazines of things we want to see in the new year and decorated our boards with words, stickers and positive images.  we had a blast!  

breakfast date

bowie is off today for semester break and ryder has school.  it is not often jarad and i get her all to ourselves, so we went out for a special breakfast, just the three of us.  i'm so happy we had this opportunity to make her feel extra special.

creating

bowie is always creating and giving her creations away as little love gifts, she is pure sweetness.

affirmations

bowie's class was learning about affirmations and "i am" statements.  i was there for this lesson and the kids got to make their own rainbow and fill it in with how they feel about themselves...

library event

we went to a lifting literacy event and library birthday celebration this morning.  it was really fun.  we met friends to build a stomp rocket, play bingo, do a scavenger hunt and some arts and crafts.  and one of bowie's reading teachers was there, so it was great to catch up with her and get some new tips and tricks.

when friends become family

we all have chosen family and doug and denise are a part of ours.  we enjoyed catching up over family dinner.

day 5 bruising & ENT follow up

this goes to show how resilient kids truly are.  this accident probably hurt my mama heart worse than her nose.  the swelling is still very prominent, but the bruising is not as bad as i thought it would be.  if an adult were to have that kind of trauma we would have black racoon eyes that would take forever to heal.

on day 6 she had a follow up with the ENT and they thoroughly checked out her nose.  they like to look at it between 4-7 days when the swelling has gone down a bit.  luckily her nose is straight and there is no mobility in the bone, so no need to set it.  just take a month off of PE at school and be extra careful while it heals.  

bingo

we skipped out on storytime and decided to try out drag queen bingo with miss sylvia.  i love bingo and this counts as math homework for the kids right?  i had a blast, i didn't know there were several variations of ways to win in bingo.  bowie did good and had fun, but ryder was a little young and got frustrated, especially that we didn't win.  we played 8 games and after 2 games there would be a break and miss sylvia would sing a song.  this is something i would love to do as a date night or with a friend.  there were fun prizes and i love supporting this taproom that has such inclusive values and does so much to support the community.  

day 2 bruising

last night bowie had a good night of sleep and her pain is tolerable, so she will go to school.  we talked about making safe choices at school while her nose heals and she will have to skip out on anything physical and PE.  here is her nose and bruising on day 2, not as bad as i thought it would be, kids are so resilient.  

monkey bar accident

getting a phone call from school in the middle of the day is never a good thing.  i was in the middle of getting my hair done and i knew something wasn't right.  the nurse called to tell me that bowie had an accident at recess on the monkey bars and got a very bad bloody nose, but now she is concerned with the swelling and i need to get her ASAP.  i rushed to school to see my baby with a bruised and swollen nose.  luckily she didn't hit her head or bang her teeth, but i got her home and we continued to ice her nose until she got into urgent care.  they took xrays and found she had fractured the left side of her nose, but luckily no displacement.  she was so brave and afterwards we had got some frozen yogurt together.  now we wait to get her into an ENT to make sure everything looks okay.

sunshine

warm and sunny today!  i opened up the doors and windows for an air exchange and ryder loved some one on one time at the park.

don't go!

grandma and grandpa leave after being here for three weeks over the holidays.  always a hard day for us all.  banjo is hoping if he smoothers grandma with kisses she may change her mind? i think he kinda loves her.
