watercolor practice

not feeling either of my pictures today. i tried to do a monochrome halloween scene and decided to add a full moon, the tutorial that I followed had you do the ground and tree with a stick, i think this was a big mistake for me. also, maybe it would have turned out better on a bigger piece of paper.

then i tried to do more bubbles, but my ones the other day just turned out so perfectly and i think the colors were too concentrated on this one.

usually i paint in the morning or daytime while the kids are at school, but today the kids were with me and nowie was eager to dive into the paint as well. i don't love either of my pieces today, but it's just for fun and practice. i know i'll find new inspiration tomorrow.

one thing i love about watercolors is that they are very forgiving. i couldn't stop thinking about how much i really disliked how these two pictures came out, it was actually bothering me. so i came back to the halloween scene the next day and i softened the tree and brought it off the border. i also brought the ground off the border and softened it and added another crow. i think it looks better?

then i came back to my bubbles. i tried a different method on these, which didn't work out as nicely. on my original painting i dipped a shot glass into puddles of watercolor, this time i painted the rim of the glass which made it too concentrated. i came in and softened the edges and realized that i didn't like all the orange in it. i used some hot pink to soften it up and although my first bubbles came out pretty darn perfect, these are looking a little bit better now.

bubbles bubbles everywhere!  this one was super fun!  i took a shot glass and a small juice glass and painted the rim and used it like a stamp on the page.  then with a clean wet brush, pulled the paint into the center to create a bubble effect.  i may come back to this one and add some shimmer splatter???

yup!  definitely needed some shimmer!

while not every piece is a masterpiece, this one makes me really really happy. jarad wasn't overly impressed (he really liked the mountains from the other day), i get it it's just a bunch of circle and blobs. but I love all things rainbow and it was so exciting that i used four different color palettes on this.

it's been a long time since we have hiked here, in fact the last time bowie was in a hiking back pack and ryder has never been.  beating the rain for a outdoor adventure at twin falls in north bend.

it never gets easier

we packed a lot into a short weekend.  felt so good to be around friends and family and celebrate the wedding of a dear friend.  but the goodbyes never get easier.  this girl is just like me...loves her family hard!
