future engineer and heart breaker!

tinkergarten week 4!

this was a great class today and inspired by STEM learning.  they used simple machinery (pulley system and seesaw/balance) to learn cause and effect and played with their sock bunnies from the week prior to reinforce empathy and reading emotions.

bowie was also excited to see her mud face from two weeks ago was still there!  the mud has dried out pretty well on the tree, however the eyes and nose have fallen off.

potions and color mixing!

potion making (baking soda, vinegar and food coloring) are a favorite activity, but bowie has been interested in color mixing lately, so i combined the two!

i used a plastic costco egg carton and filled each cup with a little baking soda, then i put a couple of drops of food coloring into each cup and topped it off with a little more baking soda.  on the side i gave her a few cups of colored vinegar and a turkey baster.

she had fun revealing the colors underneath the baking soda as they bubbled and fizzed over into the next cup and mixed!

granola!!!

i stayed up late last night making granola as mothers day gifts for my tribe. i used my favorite food bloggers recipe and she did not do me wrong!  it is amazing!  it is sweet, simple and crunchy!  guys...this one delivers!

i made three batches and it is so good it will be my new go to recipe for holiday home made gifts and exchanges!  the best part is you probably already have the ingredients!  you can add dried fruit, more nuts, etc. after it is all baked up, but i think i am partial to the plain goodness!

check out laney's @lifeisbutadish recipe for granola here

ingredients:

3 cups oats (not quick oats)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 vegetable oil
1/2 cup honey
1 t vanilla
1/2 salt
3/4 cup unsweetened coconut shreds
3/4 cup almond slivers

how to:

in a bowl mix all wet ingredients, then add oats, coconut and almonds.  stir until sticky and well combined.

lay in a single layer on a baking sheet with parchment paper or cooking spray and into a 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes, mixing every 7-10 minutes.  take out of oven and allow to completely cool and get crunchy.  break into pieces and enjoy!

***i didn't have parchment paper and when i took the granola out of the oven it gets real sticky shortly after.  i laid wax paper on my clean counter and poured the granola on top of it to allow to cool.  if i hadn't done this, i think it would have totally stuck to the baking sheet.  parchment would have worked best, but this worked well for me***
