recycled play

you want to know what "toy" gets played with EVERY SINGLE DAY???  this recycled tree house that i made from recycled boxes and tubes.  i made it well over a year ago and i have done many repairs on it, but both kids LOVE it!  bowie uses it for small world play and ryder will put his peg dolls and trains on it.

with all of our time at home, this is a great time to get creative and make one, this has been the best "free" toy!!!

leprechaun potions

a simple twist on potions (vinegar and baking soda) with the addition of a small amount of dish soap in the bottom of our leprechaun pots (from the dollar tree, also double as witches cauldrons).  the soap makes them bubble up even more!

materials needed:  baking soda, dish soap, vinegar and food coloring

savior

the hot tub has been my saving grace when we are stuck at home.  we have been having daily family swims post nap.  the kids get to play with toys, the adults have a drink and it kills an hour of time before i start dinner.

mindfulness

in this crazy time, here are a few things to keep in mind.  we are doing our part to stay at home, social distance ourselves and responsibly be prepared.

~costco isn't the only store.  we have had good luck getting toilet paper and hand sanitizer at our local grocery outlet.  people are also having better luck getting those items at lowes or home depot.  the crowds alone at costco would be enough to not want to go there.

~don't hoard.  stock up and have enough, but we are all in the same predicament, so be sure to leave enough for others.

~the virus tends to live the longest on metal and stainless steel surfaces.  for those with kids, think twice if you want to go to the park or take extra precautions.  we have been doing lots of nature walks or rock hunting instead.

~stay hydrated.  i have read that if you have the virus in your mouth, drinking water will allow it to travel to your stomach and be killed by stomach acid?  i'm not a doctor, but this kinda makes sense?  either way you should be doing it regardless.

~throw out your tooth brush and get a new one.  or at least disinfect it with alcohol.  you should be doing this every couple of months or when you are sick.

~i don't think we will go through a food shortage, but i definitely think about using our fresh and perishable goods first.  this may be extreme, but get some seeds to grow your own fruits/veggies.

~if you do go out in public, take your clothes off and into the laundry when coming home.

~if you have a favorite local restaurant that is suffering, buy a gift card to be used at a later time.

~do an air exchange when you can.  if the weather is nice, open the windows and doors and get some clean fresh air inside.  we do this as often as we can during the sick season.

~this may be the hardest one, but be careful of the mindless scrolling and the information you consume, there is a lot of misguided info out there.

~move your body.  i hadn't been to the gym in about two weeks, and last weekend i started using our spin bike again.  it made the twitch in my eye go away (probably stress and anxiety related).

~lastly, we are all so busy and have a hard time unplugging, so enjoy this time with your family.

happy 7 years!

marrying you was the best decision i ever made!  i love you forever!!!

bounce house

one of the best purchases we made last summer!  great for these cooped up days inside!

exploring new mediums

thinking outside the box and testing out new mediums to create on.  today we are using tin foil with kwik stix, dot markers, tempera paint cakes and washi tape.  this is what process art is all about, no boundaries, no rules and lots of creativity!
