bowie's big haircut

i invested in a nice pair of hair cutting shears and decided that today was a good day for a hair trim for bowie post tubby time.  i got her all ready and prepped and when i went to make my first cut, she moved her head and i cut off about 4 inches!!!  i was only going to take off about 2 inches, but this was a lot more than i had planned on.  i did my best to even it out as much as possible, and i am really loving the length.  her hair is incredibly thick and is looking very healthy with the new shorter length.

planters done!

my parents usually do all the landscaping around here.  they enjoy gardening and since we haven't much extra time outside of normal yard maintenance, they do all the planting, pruning and yard beautification.  but this year since there is no traveling going on right now, i have had to take matters into my own hands and pick out flowers for the planters.  we have 5 large ones total in the front and back yard and i tried to find things that would do well in shade and partial sun.  so i posted the other day the two that i completed by the front door, and here are the others that i finished last night!

afternoon adventures

to see the old trains in snoqualamie.  very exciting for ryder!

garden

got some flowers to plant in the front yard.  did some gardening today with bowie and we finished these two planters by the front door.  i bought some gerber daisies, marigolds (the smell reminds me of my grandparents pool, they had them in pots and i would pick the dead heads), begonias, and some foilage.  it is hard to find things that do well in the shade, and these are all suppose to do well in part sun light and shade.  we will see???  they look pretty for now!

sea creatures

since doing lots of sensory play set ups with the kids, i have noticed that we were really lacking in the sea creature department.  so i ordered an assortment pack off of amazon and i am setting them out with some kinetic sand.

ryder 23 months!

almost two years old.  i will  hold on to this month as long as i can.  you still feel like a "baby" to me, but you will always be my baby.  this stage of development has been so much fun for me and for us to watch.  you are growing so fast and it is a joy and pleasure to witness your amazing development!

your vocabulary builds everyday and you will surprise me with new words all the time.  and i love how you are putting 2 and 3 words together to communicate what you want or what you are observing.  you are learning how to be empathetic and retaliate all at the same time.  you will comfort bowie when she is sad or gets hurt and you will also pull her hair to get a toy or for no reason at all.  this video sums it up...please watch it, it is so sweet (around 18 seconds in).

you have incredible manners.  you always say "thank you" and "please."  but lately you have started saying "thank you mom" or "please dad."  it was only a week or so ago that mama and dada have been shortened to mom and dad.  and i'm not sure how i like that???  but i know even if i am mom and not mama, we are still your safe place and favorite people.  you definitely have stranger danger and separation anxiety, although we haven't been apart in months due to the whole lockdown thing.

you are really hamming it up on the video calls with the grandparents lately.  you will compete with bowie to talk, play games and chat it up (although we aren't always sure what you are saying).  i am no;t sure if we are going through a sleep regression or hitting the terrible twos a little early, but this week has been a bit rough.  there was one day that you didn't nap at all, then the next day you took a one hour nap and the night you decided to wake up at 1:45am.  that was a fun night!  i am not sure if the lack of sleep is causing you to get easily frustrated and throw some tantrums or if we are getting to the terrible two stage???  either way, i hope we can work through and resolve these sleep issues as you are normally a great sleeper.  typically you nap from 12:30pm-3pm each day and we start bedtime for the both of you around 7ish.  i get you up at 8am, you may wake up a little earlier but you are content to play in your crib for a few minutes.

you amaze me with your ability to play!  i know i say this every month, but you great at independent and pretend play.  you are really into trucks right now, and of course "choo choos."  but you love playing with your green toys trucks, dump trucks, trash trucks, etc.  and when driving you get so excited to see any kind of construction truck in person.  you love being outside, you will bring me your rain boots to tell me it's time to play in the yard.  you love your activity bins and sensory play.  your favorite right now is playing with kinetic sand and water.  you love your book time before bed with dad and only want to read train books.  you still only like to watch peppa pig and blippi on TV bur are warming up to the idea of thomas the train.  you love animals and are very kind, gentle and affectionate towards wilfred.  you are a great eater, but not as adventurous these days with new foods.  you love chicken nuggets, hot dogs, cheese, hummus and fruit.  you can find the beat in any song and strike a good dance move.

ryder lee, you are pure joy and magic.  never forget how loved and adored you are!
