double trouble with oobleck!

i know what you are thinking...i must be crazy, desperate or crazy desperate!!!  i went big with oobleck (2 parts corn starch 1 part water).  it is part liquid, part solid and just plain crazy cool!  this is ryder's first time with it, and i chose it because it is taste safe and loads of fun to explore.  i got these neat balls the other day and thought they would be a fun addition to a tray of oobleck.  against my better judgement, i set it up on a table cloth on the kitchen floor, and it quickly moved upstairs and into the bath tub.  it made a medium size mess, but the nice thing about oobleck is it dries almost immediately, so you can brush it up and sweep/vacuum easily.

i get why sensory/messy play gets a bad reputation.  as moms i am sure we are all behind on dishes, laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. so why the heck would you set something up that creates a mess just for your childs entertainment?  there are so many benefits to sensory play, so if you can find a way to incorporate it that works for you, it is so worth it!  it's how we prefer to play and i've learned along the way some tips and tricks so that i don't get too stressed out about the mess.

1.  if i am feeling overwhelmed or uptight or stressed this is NOT the day to make a mess
2.  if you can contain them or do it outside that is always a good choice (bath tub is great!)
3.  the roomba is my best friend
4.  rainbow rice on the carpet has saved my sanity and then i can vacumm it up afterwards, so much easier than sweeping
5.  start small and gain your confidence
6.  play with them!
