big boy bed

it's been a week now that ryder climbed out of his crib and we had to immediately switch him to a big boy bed.  as a child who is resistant to change, he did not initially like the new set up and child proofing of his room.  on night # 2 or 3 we added the frame of his crib around the back o his bed to make it look and feel more familiar while still being able to climb out of his bed freely, he liked this set up a lot better.

however, the new bed meant that nap time was a free for all in his room, mostly crying for the first few days, but last weekend he started to embrace playing and reading in his room on his own during this time.

then come the middle of the night wake up and of course early mornings.  during the middle of the night he would wake up screaming for me, and now he asks for me to tuck him back in and i let him know i will come back to check on him.  however, he does not want me to close the door, which presents a problem as he is a very light sleeper.

we are figuring it out and staying consistent and patient, but this sudden new change has mama on call all day with no real breaks as i had before and earlier mornings, and i am not a morning person.  each passing day has made some new progress but i am hoping that he doesn't give up naps entirely! here are some pics of the last week (napping in the car, falling asleep by the door of his room, embracing playing during his room during quiet time and a video of him reading to himself).
