happy thanksgiving!

i started my thanksgiving prep yesterday with making the stuffing and 2 pumpkin pies.  today we picked up my in laws and just have to cook the turkey and an apple pie.  we have 14 people coming over for thanksgiving dinner tonight, and i am excited to be hosting a large crowd in our home!

a few things i learned this year from hosting...

~you can never go wrong with a bigger turkey.  i got a 19 pound turkey and i was shocked at how little meat came off.

~you will always have a few no shows.  if you think anyone might be flaky don't assign them a key dish to your meal.

~cooking the turkey in a bag is money!  it cooked in half the time and was supper moist.  good job jarad!

~put the booze and apps out of the kitchen so that people avoid that area during your rush time.

~use a high quality paper plate, cups and utensils for minimal clean up!

  1. All good tips, even some new to me! We already use the the fancy Costco plastic plates and I have gone a step further by now using disposable aluminum trays for the mashed potatoes and stuffing. Yes, getting the people out of the kitchen is a must, especially during crunch time. I'm not so nice about it either and push them out when the time comes. Having the an alternate gathering spot may lure them away, not no guarantees. I will try the cooking bag, sounds great. Your spread looks beautiful. xox
