***warning! if you are offended by breastfeeding, then this is your warning to scroll on...but there is nothing graphic or too personal here***
let me start off by saying that i believe FED IS BEST! i have fed my babies all which ways...nursed, pumped, bottles, donor milk and formula. so i don't have judgement with how any family chooses to feed their baby.
OK...so my breastfeeding didn't go as planned with bowie. i had low supply and by 2 months she was supplementing with my girlfriends milk and shortly after that she started to supplement on formula. i continued to nurse her until 6 months old, but i clearly did not produce enough milk on my own. i tried everything i could to increase my milk but she also wasn't great at nursing either. the combination of this made it frustrating for the both of us and we sucked at it (no pun intended). it also made me feel very inadequate as a mother and i had a lot of guilt over it.
i expected this to be the same experience with ryder and had little expectations of it working out for us. i also knew how hard exclusively breastfeeding can be and how time consuming it would be with a toddler as well. so i said i would do it as long as my body would allow and it would make sense. i am happy to say that i make MORE than enough milk and he is thriving! as soon as he was born he started rooting and immediately latched on. all the issues bowie and i had are a thing of the past. we are 13 weeks in and doing great! it amazes me that just as my body grew him for 9 months, he is 3 months old and my body continues to 100% nourish his growth!!! it gives me a whole new respect and admiration for my body! it's my superhuman power!!!
looking back at these pics makes me realize i wear stripes a lot!
