wind storm!

we have lived in washington almost 3 years now and every winter is different!  we have had some winters that were very cold and rainy, some with lots of snow days and this winter is one filled with wind storms!  i have learned this is my least favorite, i get very nervous with the wind storms as we have lots of large trees on our property.

on sunday morning from about 1- 4 am we had extreme winds, up to 50 mph!!!  it was howling and we could hear branches and limbs cracking.  the sky would light up with lightening and we could hear transformers blow.  it was scary!  we had all 5 of us (including wilfred) in the bed, needless to say no one slept!  the power went out around 2am and we started up the generator in the morning.  the first thing that popped into my mind was "i don't want to lose my pumped milk in the freezer!"

we all slept in a bit since we were up most of the night and having the generator makes it not a big deal, but cell towers were down and we were without cell service or internet. the generator provides power to all the house with the exception of the ovens and the heater.  we had a blazing fire going all day and when the power returned 18 hours later, the house was only a few degrees cooler than we normally keep it.

jarad was able to play some movies for us and we kept busy with magnet tiles and peg dolls all morning long.  we headed out in the afternoon for dinner and a drive, and come bedtime the power was back on!  we were surprised as we have many trees and lines down in our area.  we are very lucky as we still have friends without power and worst case it may not be back on for a few more days!!!  many roads are still closed and as of today (monday) there is no school.  of course to top off the exciting weekend it started to snow (sleet really, and did not stick) and bowie went to bed with a fever.  ryder has been fussy all day, i think he is teething???
