we just got back from an awesome weekend in orcas island. we have become good friends with our real estate agent and her family and they invited us up to their cabin. they own several properties there as well as the marina where whale watching is a big deal, hence the name "orcas island." getting there requires a bit of traveling. we had to drive up to anacortes and then catch a ferry to the island. then it is a about a 15 minute drive to their home. in total it is about a 5.5 - 6 hour journey to get there. the ferry is pretty cool and jarad loved that the ferry had tables with puzzles to work on.
we made sure to go during "crab season'" which is from the middle of july until the end of september. the boys caught over a dozen dungeness crabs and feasted on them all weekend and we even brought some home. we kayaked, went to the farmers market, went to the highest part of the san juan islands (mt. constituion) and took a boat to sucia island where we played at the beach and hiked! looking forward to making this a yearly tradition with bob and cheryl!
