rule of thumb

the rule of thumb in washington is; summer starts on july 5th and you start your garden projects after mothers day.  so i am starting to tackle our front yard planters.  i did really well last year with marigolds (which remind me of my grandparents), gerber daisies, coleuses, begonias and this year i am trying impatiens as well.   and our primroses are doing well.  they were planted by the previous owners and they continue to winter over and come back year after year.

since no one likes tomatoes, i am not doing them this year, but instead we will try out some cucumbers, bell peppers and zucchini.
