dyed salt smoothies!

i posted this activity a while back, it comes straight from the meri cherry "play make create" process art book.  it is so fun i wanted to do it with our friends who stayed with us last week while they had some work done to their home. 

i dyed iodized salt with liquid watercolors and the kids scooped the different colors into the cups making pretty layers.  BUT...i learned a very important lesson the second time around. 

the final step to this project is to do a layer of glue to seal the salt inside of the cup.  i bought a knock off glue and it pulled away from the sides of the cup.  however, i was able to peel it off and re-do this step with ELMERS glue and fixed the problem.
